ELLIE,"THE POET IN ME"

TO MY MOM; POEM FOR MOTHER'S DAY

We celebrate mother's day on May 13
			every year, why?
I can think of millions of reasons,
some of which, other poets put on
paper, whote glorious poems, some of
which became songs and were sang by
			famous singers.

I do not want to repeat what was said,
sang or written in the past.
			I want to tell you about my own Mom;
a lady wonder, a special lady.

In my family, there were three boys
and one girl, that was me. Not only
I was the youngest in my family, but
I was the youngest in my extended family,
as well and the only girl.

My mom had three sisters and five brothers,
she managed to please all of us. I do not
remember ever being hungry, dirty or without
good clothes or without a roof on my head
or a good school to go to and tutors to
teach me, things I could not learn by myself.

You might think all that were easily
attainable with no extra efford. Well yes,
all that it is easy to attain here, in the
USA, where these things, that we have, are given
to us, as a matter of fact and then plus.
Because, most of the family members work,
they earn enough money to help out with the
needs and then, there is the government
that provides lots of things without charge.

But, I grew up during the war in Europe,
where, things were scarce to come by.
Food, you had to wait in line for hours to
buy, clothing was very expensive, rents the
same and lots of people lived with their
			relatives.

But, my Mom, the lady wonder, managed, what
we had diligently and we all went through
that horrible era, with very few casualties.
She did that; with plenty of love, never
complaining of pains and aches or being tired,
never neglecting her chores of the day.

Our clothes were cleaned, our food was cooked,
			our house was never untidy.
Her energy and love for me and my brothers
			was unlimited. There was never an argument;
about anything. Her household was running
			like a well tuned clock.

My father had died, as soon as, the war
had started and she became both a mother
and father to us. She did everything inside
the house and my brothers did all the chores
outside the house, I was to young to be given
any chores to do. We never asked for anything,
			she seamed to read our minds, things were there;
			in place, without asking.

She was always smilling and we all loved her
for the happiness she was spreading around us.
That was my Mom, A special lady, who will be
in my heart for, as long as I live.
She was the model, I have tried to emulate
and be a little special to my family, as she
was to me and my brothers.
What I always say; A STAR SHINES WHEN IT IS
DARK. And she shone, when we needed her the
			most. MY MOM.

Note:Mother's Day, May 14, is not celebrated, everywhere in the World. Here in the USA, it is a national holiday dedicated to all the mothers who have children, love them and take care of them until they are on their own and beyond.
Since the world has become a Global Village and the Internet allows this village to be informed of events that take place in its regions, I thought it to be, a good idea for all the kids to learn about other peoples' customs, through my poetry. I hope you have learned something today.
This is a poem the kids will get Free with the purchase of the preschool kids books. I wrote it, because a lot of visitors who come to my site, are searching for preschool Kids Poems.
